"They have been messaging the public option as if Sybil has been in charge," said Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) expressing widespread liberal disgust at the White House’s mixed messages on the plan. That's from
Politico. Weiner is referring, of course, to "Sybil," a 1976 made-for-TV movie, starring
Sally Field and
Joanne Woodward, about a woman suffering from multiple personalities.
No word yet from disability rights groups, if they plan to protest Weiner's allusion.
UPDATE:
Peter Roff, of the Institute For Liberty, quips of Weiner, "I thought he was being confused and meant to say 'Cassandra.'" Cassandra, of course, was the figure from mythology who could foresee the bleak future, but was powerless to do anything about it.
